The First Wave
WHY WILL EVERYTHING BE THIS WAY?
Some people dream of driving a spaceship-like car.
Others — of slicing through the wind on a motorcycle.
Of buying a yacht.
Owning a plane.
Some dream of living where it’s always summer.
Or vacationing where it never rains.
And I’m no different.
Sometimes I lie down and cast my fishing lines of dreams.
“Maybe one day something will bite,” I smile to myself.
And it did.
For many years I had dreamed of organizing a Summer photoshoot by the Sea.
Are you laughing?
Because it sounds a bit like a child dreaming of a scoop of ice cream?
At first glance — yes.
But. Oh, however.
Whenever I began turning the mills of thought about how to make it happen —
What transport would get us all there? Where would we stay?
How far would the sea be? What if it rains? What if there’s no sun?
What if it’s very windy?
What if it’s cold?
Will the whole team be able to go?
If the forecast changes and we need to shift the date — can everyone adjust?
Will the reserved place have other available dates?
When that many question marks started beeping in my head…
I would postpone the dream of taking Summer to the Sea.
Too many unknowns.
This time, when the team gathered to photograph the “Summer Festivities” collection, over morning coffee the question arose:
“Where are we shooting Summer?”
After presenting a few “nothing spectacular” ideas, a voice rang out in the room:
“So maybe this time we just go for the real sea?”
And do you know what?
A unanimous “LET’S DO IT” filled the air.
The Baltic Sea is unpredictable.
Not super photogenic.
Cool.
Not the most beautiful in color.
That’s why in recent years our summer shoots circled around places that look “five minutes away from the seaside.”
The view similar — but the feeling with a few “acting elements.” 😀
But this time — from the day that unanimous “Let’s do it” was spoken…
Every day was accompanied by checking weather forecasts, searching for the right location, strictly calculating what and how to pack, and planning how to handle an accidental “oops.”
That early morning, when our fully loaded minibus stopped to pick up the last team member and there were no seats left, all I could do was believe that my long-held dream was on the final stretch toward its FULFILLMENT.
It wasn’t very warm.
On the second day, we were gifted strong gusts of wind.
But both days we had the sun hanging above our heads, rustling grasses, the roaring sea — and within the team, a feeling that we had set off on a short vacation.
A vacation filled with delicious homemade food, sweet bustle, cozy dinners, women’s chatter, toasts, and laughter that left our cheeks aching for two more days…
It made me believe that my “many-year” dream — simple as two pennies —
was worth the wait.
And worth fulfilling not merely by the principle of “just a photoshoot,”
but in the rhythm of a workation.
