WHY WILL EVERYTHING BE THIS WAY?<\/p>\n
It was a gloomy beginning of February.
\nLong after Christmas.
\nAnd with what felt like \u201cforever\u201d still to go until Spring.<\/p>\n
It was raining.<\/p>\n
Letting my gaze wander through the rain-streaked window,
\nI felt my thoughts drifting
\nthrough questions of \u201cWhat hasn\u2019t been done?\u201d,
\n\u201cWhat hasn\u2019t been thought of?\u201d,
\n\u201cWhat hasn\u2019t been answered?\u201d \u2014
\nand almost to the second, my good mood
\nwent to the dogs.<\/p>\n
Feeling the sour mood settling into the frown taking up residence on my forehead,
\nI decided to fix the situation.<\/p>\n
I opened the blue screen and in the search bar
\ntyped a \u201ccode\u201d: \u201cdirect flights.\u201d<\/p>\n
Immediately, I was asked to specify a date.
\n\u201cWhat do I know,\u201d I thought to myself,
\n\u201clet it be the date reserved for my \u2018I\u2019m not going anywhere\u2019 plan \u2014 my birthday week.\u201d<\/p>\n
The little spinning wheel on the screen paused for a moment
\nand then presented me with options.<\/p>\n
Oh, Cyprus!<\/p>\n
I clapped my hands, and continuing the \u201cI\u2019m not going anywhere\u201d thought,
\nentered the region of the island I knew.<\/p>\n
What I saw
\nwiped the rain from both my thoughts and the windows.<\/p>\n
Right there in first place, wagging its tail before my eyes,
\nwas SUCH A PLACE FOR ME.<\/p>\n
After scrolling through the first few photos,
\nI immediately went to my husband with my \u201cI\u2019m not going anywhere\u201d plan.<\/p>\n
Many thoughts followed:
\n\u201cMaybe here?\u201d \u201cOr there?\u201d \u201cOr what about that?\u201d<\/p>\n
But nothing I saw was as much
\nMY TRUE SUMMER
\nas that first glimpse \u2014
\na sight I simply could not unsee.<\/p>\n
And so \u2014 here I am.<\/p>\n
Settled into the outdoor terrace bathtub
\nof that \u201ccouldn\u2019t-unsee\u201d place.
\nWith a breathtaking sea horizon before me.
\nAfter yet another day when I felt myself becoming blissful.<\/p>\n
Collecting seashells
\nthat I already know I won\u2019t even take home. Because I can\u2019t.<\/p>\n
Kayaking across barely rippling waves \u2014
\neven though I was always convinced that such an activity wasn\u2019t for me.<\/p>\n
Reading not just one but two books I brought along \u2014
\nthough while packing them into my backpack,
\nI was certain I wouldn\u2019t finish even one.<\/p>\n
Sitting on the sand and gazing at the sea.
\nFor a long time.
\nEven though, knowing my usual restlessness,
\nI can hardly sit still for five minutes.<\/p>\n
Having found it by chance.
\nAnd deciding in an instant
\nthat this would be \u201cMy Summer of True Vacation,\u201d
\nI promised myself I would write the traditional
\n\u201cWhy will everything be this way?\u201d<\/p>\n
From the place itself.
\nWhen inspiration said \u201cnow.\u201d<\/p>\n
